Pastor Dave, our worship pastor, is a huge proponent of memorizing scripture. We asked him for some tips on how he memorizes the Word!
Start small, with a single verse.
Read the verse 10 times in a row
Try to say it 10 times in a row, allowing yourself to peek at it when you stumble.
Then say it 10 times out loud without looking. (Record yourself so you can check yourself, or involve a friend.)
Leave it alone for a while
Return to it and repeat…
When you add another verse, (when memorizing versus within the same passage), be sure to keep refreshing the ones you’ve already memorized as you repeat the process adding new verses.
Work out rhythms with difficult passages, and record yourself reciting the passage in the rhythm that you worked out.
Refresh your versus often.
