Serving at The Axis

Serving provides an opportunity to "Be Known and Know Others." What motivates our serving is not to get God to accept, be pleased, or love us. For the believer, we are fully accepted, approved, and loved by God because of the finished work of Jesus Christ and His atoning work on the cross on our behalf.

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭4‬-‭10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Why do we serve?

  • My friends, we serve one another in response to having first been served by Jesus, in his life, death, and resurrection!

“even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭20‬:‭28‬ ‭ESV‬‬

  • Serving allows you to use your unique gifting to edify the church body.

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:”

    ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭4‬:‭10‬ ‭ESV‬

  • Our serving one another is also an indicator to the world of our love for one another. It allows us to put love into action.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this, all people will know that, you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

    John 13:34-35 ESV

Where to serve

  • Serving on the welcome team will often set the tone for those walking through our doors for the first time. Being friendly, welcoming, and eager to help people feel comfortable goes a long way in this area!

You arrive 45 minutes before service, restock the welcome table, and place connection cards, giving forms, and pens at each seat-back. Twenty minutes before service, you will stand by the door and greet our Axis family and visitors as you hand them a bulletin.

Welcome team volunteers also help collect the offering near the end of the service.

  • Are you a coffee enthusiast or prefer to serve more behind the scenes? Serving on this team may be just for you!

You will arrive 45 minutes before service to prepare our coffee and tea station and ensure it stays stocked and ready to go. You will weigh, grind and brew several batches of coffee throughout the morning.

In addition to preparing coffee and tea, you will prepare the bread, juice, and wine for our communion stations so they are ready when we partake of the Lord's Supper as a church family.

  • Our building prep team does just that; they prepare our building for gatherings! You will arrive

45 minutes before service begins. Responsibilities include touch-up vacuuming and sweeping in the auditorium and both lobbies, aligning chairs, picking up any loose trash, ensuring our bathrooms are stocked, changing any lightbulbs that are out, etc. You will also assist with parking.

It's taking ownership of our building to ensure it's ready to receive our Axis fam!

  • Are you good with tools? Have experience with electrical or plumbing work? Want to work more behind the scenes? This area may be for you!

Volunteers on the facilities team work together on Saturdays to maintain our building, premises, and any repair work needed.

Reach out to Ben Filincieri to sign up!

  • Team leads are experienced in each area of serving and operate as a point person for our volunteers. They are assigned to a given Sunday of the month, and that lead will be the main point of contact for volunteers, including if someone has a question or needs help resolving a scheduling conflict.

  • Children are a blessing and play an essential role in the body of Christ. The Axis Church is passionate about creating a safe, accommodating space for all children to meet, love, and follow Jesus.
